Hello, hello everyone! I’ve actually been reading a lot and a bit faster than I expected I would be able to. I finished Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susannah Clarke in 2 and a half days and it’s a 1006 pages long! Before that, I read The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan. I really enjoyed both and reviews are coming up shortly. 😉 I don’t actually have that much free time because I have had a lot of extra classes scheduled this month and my laptop conked off for a few days and I was suffering from withdrawal.
In the meantime, I thought I would do something easy but still a bit interesting… Maybe… If anyone actually is interested. 😛
I thought I would do a tag post which floats around Booktube as a video. I’ve seen sooo many videos of this tag. (That doesn’t mean I’m addicted to booktube or anything. Oh no. Not at all.)
Here goes. 🙂 Enjoy. Tell me if your answers match mine or tell me why you disagree. 😀
1. Would you rather… only read trilogies or only stand-alones?
I hate trilogies. I abhor trilogies. Most books that are trilogies needn’t be trilogies. I don’t read too many series as it is, because a lot of series are YA and I don’t read too much of that, but I especially dislike trilogies. I’ve read very few trilogies that actually work. The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson is one. The Gameworld Trilogy by Samit Basu is another. (This series deserves so much more love than it gets. Everyone read this. Please!) I also really want to read the MadAddam trilogy by Margaret Atwood.
Seriously though, who settled at three as a weird magic number for all the f****g books? I mean, really! It’s so clearly a sham. A scam! I don’t need that shit in my life!
And stand-alones show you an author’s talent. To tell a complete and satisfying story in one book and still make you feel invested in the story is what talent is all about. Stand-alones all the way! Although, I do like the thick meaty books which go on and on and make me feel fuzzy inside. In any case, I read mostly only stand-alones, so it makes sense to stick to those. <3
And yes. I have very strong opinions about very random things which will come out in this post like never before. Please proceed further only after putting on your protective gear.
2. Would you rather… read only female authors or male authors?
Uh… female! Duh.
Most of my favourite authors are female, and a lot of my favourite books are by women, but that’s not even relevant here. Can I just say women as a gender are seriously under-represented in the world of fiction writing? There are a lot of amazing female authors out there, and on principle alone, I would read mostly women, because they deserve more love that they get. Yes! So female authors it is. 🙂
3. Would you rather… shop only at Barnes and Noble or only at Amazon?
I’m an Indian, and I’ve never been to a Barnes and Noble in my life, but I assume this question means to ask if I prefer going to actual bookstores or if I prefer shopping online. I prefer shopping in bookstores for sure, but can I just say that I prefer independent bookstores to chain stores like Barnes and Noble because the collections are so unique. I especially love second hand bookstores in my hometown,Bangalore.
4. Would you rather… all books become movies or all books become TV shows?
I don’t really care much about this because I rarely watch adaptations anyway. 🙂 But if I had to choose, I’d say a TV show because it kills me when things are left out of movies. But a short TV show with only a few episodes, the way the British do it. Like a mini-series! Yes, that’s what they’re called. 😛
. Would you rather… read 5 pages a day or 5 books a week?
I would be exhausted and sleep-deprived perpetually, but honestly, I would much rather read 5 books a week than 5 pages a day. If I read 5 pages a day, i would be miserable and in a constant state of anxiety over what happens next. I would choose contented sleeplessness any day over tension and almost no reading.
6. Would you rather… be a professional reviewer or a professional author?
AUTHORAUTHORAUTHORAUTHORAUTHOR. I have wanted to be an author for as long as I can remember. I love writing so very much even though I haven’t been disciplined about it so far. I have ambitions though. So many ambitions. It isn’t even like “Oh, if I had to pick…”. I just want to write. It’s my favourite thing.
7. Would you rather… only read your 20 favorite books over and over or only read new books and never re-read your favorites?
I have stopped rereading books even though I always want to. I usually only read light-hearted romance novels when I’m low and too mentally sapped to read anything else. So this choice is easy. 🙂 I would much rather read new books and never get to reread my favourite books. In fact, it’s because I’m so excited about reading new books that I never reread even though I always plan to.
8. Would you rather… be a librarian or a book seller?
I think I would rather be a librarian because I’d love to sit and read books and buy books as they are released and never have to permanently part with any book. <3
9. Would you rather… only read your favorite genre or only genres but your favorite?
My favourite genres are literary and postmodern fiction, dystopian fiction, and historical fiction. 🙂 I am pretty sure I couldn’t bear to read other genres exclusively. But I could bear to read only literary and postmodern fiction, I believe. I almost exclusively read that genre anyway. 🙂
10. Would you rather… only read physical books or e-books?
Frankly, I would much rather read only physical books even though I haven’t any strong feelings against e-books. I read a lot of e-books,especially in college, because I have a huge space constraint here. But I do love collecting physical books more than anything, especially of the books I love. And I love reading physical books.I have the habit of always carrying a book in my purse in case I’m bored and free any time and also because of the sheer comfort of having a nice book with me. I also love seeing other people read physical books in public places and I’m famous for making judgments about people based on what they’re reading. I would like to allow other people the same liberty of judging me. So I’ll stick to physical books over e-books. 🙂
Yes, that is it. I hope this tag told you guys a bit about me and proved to be a fun read.
Until next time,
